This has to be the simplest way to get a fresh start in the morning and load your body with all the goodness of a healthy vegan meal. A super green smoothie carefully crafted to make sure you are getting everything you need to kick start the day.
I love green smoothies like no other. I have a few recipes here at vegan.io to keep things interesting and have a good variety. All green smoothies might look the same but they are most definitely not the same.
We are making a superfood smoothie this time with an extra portion of plant-based protein. The perfect combination that can double as a breakfast option or a post work out snack when you are feeling the heat getting to your head after a good workout session.
A lot of vegan green smoothies can be quite thick and contain a lot of fibre. This could lead to bloating, gas, and even constipation. So we want to keep things balanced here.
I included a bunch of different ingredients, that are adding to the green-ness of this healthy smoothie (yep, I just made that word up). And since it's made with a handful of superfoods, we get all sorts of different nutrients from them straight into our belly in every single sip!
Just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with, here are a few benefits what's in this green smoothie. We have baby spinach jam-packed with iron and vitamin K. I also included cucumbers, which are mostly water and are packed with electrolytes that help reduce dehydration. And lastly, basil, that has a ton of antioxidants ready to eliminate free radicals from the body.
These are just a few of the health benefits you are getting from these greens. I didn't even scratch the surface! because we have a few other things in this smoothie worth mentioning here.
I wanted to add more consistency to my smoothie, add some carbs. Oh, and make it slightly sweet so it doesn't feel as if we are eating a blended salad. The easiest, quickest, and probably the cheapest way to do this is to add a banana. Just remember the riper, the sweeter, therefore the sugar content is higher.
I also wanted to have some healthy oils and a good amount of plant-based protein. So, I added almonds, ground flaxseeds, and a couple of tablespoons of unflavoured Sunwarrior protein powder. When you add it all up, you will be getting 17 grams of vegan protein in a single smoothie! How good is that?
As you can see, we included a wide range of ingredients to make this green smoothie beyond amazing. I love that it is so delicious and refreshing! I sometimes forget I am having a super healthy meal while enjoying this delight!
